Centre of Research Excellence for Better Outcomes in Inflammatory Arthritis
Driving Better Outcomes in Inflammatory Arthritis
The A3BC NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) for Better Outcomes in Inflammatory Arthritis unites Australia’s leading clinicians, researchers, data scientists and people with lived experience to accelerate precision, prevention and better outcomes in inflammatory arthritis, from childhood to adulthood.
Built on the national A3BC biobank and registry infrastructure, the CRE enables large-scale, longitudinal research that links biospecimens, clinical data, patient-reported outcomes and health records. This unique platform allows us to move beyond “one-size-fits-all” care toward precision and prevention-focused medicine.
What we’re doing
The CRE focuses on high‑burden inflammatory arthritis conditions across the life course, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS).
- Identifying biomarkers and risk factors to improve early diagnosis and personalised treatment
- Integrating multi-omics, big data and AI to predict disease progression and treatment response
- Studying key comorbidities, including cardiovascular disease, diet and the microbiome
- Translating discoveries into clinical decision tools, policy and practice
- Building the next generation of arthritis researchers through national collaboration and mentorship
Why it matters
Inflammatory arthritis is common, lifelong, costly and complex. By aligning national expertise, infrastructure and patient voices, the A3BC CRE is accelerating research that delivers the right treatment, at the right time, for the best possible outcomes, with the ultimate goal of preventing disease and finding cures.
